___ Carol Orand, 66, Sept. 16. She had been married to Byron Orand, pastor of Community Church in Eldorado, for 45 years. She was the church pianist. She wrote curriculum materials for the Sunday School Board of the Southern Baptist Convention for five years. She is survived by her husband; daughter, Kara Waldrop; son, Kyle; brother, Cody Garner; and grandson.
___ Cooper Waters, 86, Sept. 29 in San Angelo. Waters was pastor of churches in Roby, Merkel, Cisco and Houston. He also was pastor of First Church in Orange from 1949 until 1980. He served on the Executive Board of the Baptist General Convention of Texas and the boards of trustees of Howard Payne University, East Texas Baptist University, the Baptist Hospital of Southeast Texas and Orange Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Anna Ruth; daughters, Anna Niederer and Celia Black; son, Michael; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
___ James Legg, 53, Sept. 30 in Beaumont. Legg was pastor of Meeker Church in Beaumont until July, when he resigned due to health considerations. He is survived by his wife, Connie; parents, James and Loretta Legg; daughter, Lisa Anderson; son, Michael; and brother, Ray.
___ John Welch, 72, Oct. 4 in Dallas. Welch was an employee of the Baptist Standard for 48 years and 15 days until his retirement in 1996. He had served as business manager for 30 years. He worked for five editors during his tenure. He was a member of Wilshire Church in Dallas. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dorothy; and sons, David and Tom.
