LOU HAYES of First Church in Athens has been named the National Sunday School Teacher of the Year by Gospel Light Publishing Company. Hays, 87, has been teaching the Bible for 68 years. She currently leads a senior adult women's class. She was chosen from more than 600 nominations. She received a plaque, flowers and a trip for two to Hawaii.

___ Willie Mobley, 77, Nov. 10 in Longview. Mobley served in World War II and was awarded a Purple Heart with one cluster. Mobley was a pastor for many years, most of those spent in Louisiana. He was pastor of Friendship Church in Kilgore from 1993 to 2000. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; daughters, Pat Brown, Teresa Henderson, Debbie Harrell and Sandy Costello; sons, Steve and Philip; brothers, Paul and James; sisters, Ruby Bowling, Opal McCoy, Bonnie Worley, Hazel Eckler and Thelma Foreman; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
___ Ruby Fletcher, 94, Nov. 11 in San Antonio. She was the mother of Jesse C. Fletcher, president emeritus of Hardin Simmons University. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse N. Fletcher. She is survived by her son; daughter, Shirley Elrod; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

___ J.B. Word recently was reported as retiring as pastor at Travis Church in Corpus Christi. That is incorrect. Michael Hale is pastor of the church. Word had served the church as minister of education.
