___ African summit produces fruit. A consultation on peacemaking and peacekeeping in the Southern Africa region held Oct. 16-18 ended on a promising note with an international and interfaith company of more than 60 delegates charting practical plans for peace efforts in the region. The Fellowship of Christian Churches in Southern Africa, the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and Genocide Watch sponsored the conference in Harare, Zimbabwe. After deliberating on many issues related to peace, justice and human rights, delegates focused on three areas for action--training and education for grassroots leaders, better communication and information systems, and enhancing peace skills on the local, national and regional level.
___ George to WMU Foundation. David George of Birmingham, Ala., has been named president of the WMU Foundation. He succeeds Alan Medders, who left the foundation in June to become vice president for development at Campbellsville (Ky.) University. The Sunday School teacher and deacon at Shades Crest Baptist Church in Birmingham comes to the foundation with 17 years' experience in senior executive management in marketing, management and team building.
___ Texan to help LifeWay. Robert Hawley, an executive with more than 20 years' experience with several non-profit organizations, has joined the capital resource development department of LifeWay Christian Resources.
___The Prosper resident will serve as western region development officer for LifeWay. Since June 1999, he has served as representative of the president for Ligonier Ministries. Previously, he was vice president of sales training and operations for Solutioneering Inc., vice president of Stephen's Children Foundation, administrator of the Christian Motorcyclists Association and president of Open Doors Ministry.
