___bluebull Wayland hears sheriff. Lubbock County Sheriff David Gutierrez was keynote speaker at Wayland Baptist University's Plainview commencement ceremony Dec. 8. The university awarded 60 degrees in the ceremony.


___bluebull Students shed coats. When Darla Kirby, women's golf coach at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, saw a news report about the local Salvation Army having no more coats for distribution, she sent an e-mail across campus requesting that students and faculty bring their extra coats and jackets to the athletic department so they could be given to the Salvation Army. In two days, the athletic department received 100 coats (Shown in photo at left).
