___ More CentriKid camps slated for Texas. CentriKid is adding three camp locations in Texas for 2002. New sessions will begin June 3 at Camp Chaparral in Iowa Park, July 22 and 29 at Baylor University in Waco, and Aug. 5 at Highland Lakes in Spicewood. CentriKid, a program of LifeWay Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention, is for children who have completed third through sixth grades. ___ Missouri church leaves. Holmeswood Baptist Church in Kansas City, Mo., has cut ties with the Missouri Baptist Convention, citing disagreement with the recent ouster of a non-Southern Baptist church. "It is Holmeswood's belief that Baptist doctrine clearly states that each individual church is free to affiliate with any Baptist or non-Baptist entity as it chooses," the resolution said. "In contrast, the MBC has publicly stated that only those churches that are affiliated with the SBC can be affiliated with the Missouri Baptist convention." The church, which previously voted to cut SBC ties, plans to remain in its local association and reaffirmed its commitment to the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship.
___ Research on Texas churches wins award. A Southern Baptist doctoral student's study into growth differences among Texas Baptist churches earned her the Southern Baptist Research Fellowship's Outstanding Research Award. Terri Stovall's dissertation on differences between growing, declining, plateaued and erratic growth among Texas churches found that a combination of variables may be identified as causes of growth and decline. Stovall's research was aided by Clay Price of the Baptist General Convention of Texas.
___ WMU launches relief fund. The WMU Foundation, in conjunction with national Woman's Missionary Union, has established the HEART Fund to help WMU leaders with emergency ministry needs. The fund will allow WMU and the WMU Foundation to respond to requests from WMU leaders in humanitarian emergencies. HEART stands for Humanitarian Emergency Aid for Rebuilding Tomorrow.
