JIM LEAK (center), director of missions in Medina River Association, presented a $5,000 small-church matching grant from the Baptist General Convention of Texas Church Facilities Center to representatives of First Church in Center Point. Pastor Ronald Langley accepted the check. Also pictured are trustees Harlen Dodson, John Banik and Carl Carpenter. The matching grant, made possible by the Mary Hill Davis Offering for Texas missions, will allow the 127-year-old church to remodel its educational facilities.

___Retiring
___ David Shuttlesworth, after more than 21 years as pastor of Park Lake Drive Church in Waco and 43 years in the ministry, effective Dec. 31. Shuttlesworth also was pastor of Kempner Church in Kempner, First Church in Florence and Miller Heights Church in Belton. He has served on a number of boards of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, including the Executive Board and the boards of Highland Lakes Encampment and Latham Springs Encampment. Currently, he serves on the board of Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco. He also has held numerous associational offices. He and his wife, Virginia, will continue to reside in Waco.

___ Gayle Mallette, 73, Dec. 7 in Beaumont. He had been music director at South Park Church in Beaumont since 1994. He is survived by his wife, Elaine; sons, Martin and David; stepsons, Vance and Caleb Cawley; stepdaughter, Jill Barker; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
