___SAN ANTONIO--The Texas Baptist Evangelism Conference in January will kick off an emphasis on prayer and feature a new structure for the event. It also will highlight the role of small-church pastors.
___"We will be outlining our vision of praying for people," said Rick Davis, director of the Center for Strategic Evangelism with the Baptist General Convention of Texas. "I think it is as important to talk to God about lost people as it is to talk to lost people about God."
___The focus of the conference Jan. 28-29 at San Antonio Municipal Auditorium will be on worship and prayer. There will be three worship services--Monday evening, Tuesday morning and Tuesday evening. Small-group seminars will be offered only in Spanish.
___Mark Dunn, pastor of Crestview Baptist Church in Dallas, has been added as a speaker during the Tuesday morning session.
___"He balances our schedule of speakers, as we did not initially have a small-church pastor on the program," Davis said. "Our smaller churches play a critical role in reaching this state for Christ, and there are many gifted pastors leading those congregations. Mark will represent them well and speak an important word to all of us."
___Bringing more warmth and cohesion to the event is one goal for this year's conference, Davis said. In 2001, the conference and related events took place in seven locations around San Antonio. Almost everything at the 2002 event will be at Municipal Auditorium or across the street at First Baptist Church of San Antonio.
___Only two events will be held away from that area this year. The Hispanic Evangelism Crusade will be at Trinity Baptist Church in north San Antonio Sunday night, Jan. 27. The African-American Fellowship banquet and evangelistic worship rally will be at Macedonia Baptist Church in San Antonio Sunday.
___Hotel space still is available, Davis said. A block of hotels is listed in the latest pastors' mailing from the BGCT.
