PRESLEY DONALDSON, a longtime member and deacon at Plymouth Park Baptist Church in Irving, carried the Olympic torch through Fort Worth Dec. 12. Donaldson is a race walker and has been competing internationally for 10 years. He is an instructor at the American Airlines Flight Academy. Donaldson does not know who nominated him for the honor of carrying the Olympic torch as it passed through the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

___ DBU honors Ferguson and Giltner. Dallas Baptist University presented its 2001 Distinguished Alumnus Award to Keith Ferguson and the 2001 Honorary Alumna Award to Beverly Giltner during homecoming ceremonies this fall. Ferguson, a 1987 graduate of DBU, is minister of music at First Baptist Church of Dallas. Giltner has served DBU as professor of physics and computer science, as chairwoman of the department of natural sciences and mathematics and as dean of the College of Natural Sciences and Math.

___ DBU boxes up a record. Dallas Baptist University set a record this year in donated gifts for Operation Christmas Child. DBU's role in Operation Christmas Child has grown steadily since the early 1990s, with the university now serving as a relay drop point for the region. Operation Christmas Child, a ministry of Franklin Graham's Samaritan's Purse organization, provides shoeboxes filled with toys for children in underdeveloped countries. DBU processed 1,730 Operation Christmas Child boxes this year, up from 1,187 boxes last year.

___ Truett on the move. Faculty and staff of Baylor University's Truett Seminary began moving into the seminary's new $17 million complex on the university campus Dec. 13. Students, faculty and staff gathered Thursday night in the Great Hall for an inaugural Christmas celebration. Classes will begin at the new complex Jan. 14.

___ Dixon and men receive award. Texas Baptist Men and Bob Dixon, immediate past president of the ministry, received the Carrell Humanitarian Award Dec. 7 from the Masonic Grand Lodge of Texas. The annual award is given to a non-Mason who demonstrates Masonic principles. It was awarded to the Baptists because of humanitarian efforts conducted after natural disasters.
