___bluebull Virginia Armstrong, professor of political science and legal studies, after 34 years at Hardin-Simmons University. She was awarded the rank of senior professor, which is a distinction granted for "exceptional contributions in teaching, research and service to the university." She is the only female faculty member at HSU to be named to this honor. She also holds the distinction of having the longest tenure of any female faculty member. FIRST CHURCH in Sunnyvale recently broke ground on a 3,500-seat auditorium. Since 1990, the church has grown from 60 members to more than 4,000, and average attendance has increased from 180 to 2,200. Charles Wilson is pastor.

___bluebull Dellview Church in San Antonio, 50th, Jan. 12-13. A reception and open house will be held Saturday from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. Bill Taylor, a local television meteorologist, will speak in the morning service. A luncheon will be followed by a musical program and observance of the Lord's Supper.

___bluebull Birdville Church in Fort Worth will present its 27th annual production of the Living Christmas Tree Dec. 8-10. All performances will be at 7 p.m.

___bluebull Mims Church in Conroe will hold a Bible conference Jan. 9-11. Speakers will be Sam Cathey, Bill Stafford, Junior Hill and Herb Reavis. Music will be led by the Legacy Five, Jim Bob Griffin Family, Charles Billingsley and the Mims Church adult choir and orchestra. It will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Thursday and Friday will include sessions at 9:30 a.m., noon and 7 p.m.
___bluebull Castle Hills Church in Carrollton will hold a Bible conference Dec. 9-12. Paige Patterson will speak at both morning and evening services Sunday. Other speakers are Bill Tolar, Jeff Bingham and Malcolm Ellis. Steve Skinner is pastor.

___bluebullHoward Orr, Danny Buckalew, Layne Kramer, Paul Patterson, Scott Vanarsdall, Jimmy Swetnam, Joe Damron and Leon Walker as deacons at First Church in Graham.

___Deaths
___bluebull Ray Canant, 63, Nov. 22 at South Padre Island. Canant, a former faculty member at Hardin-Simmons University, died while saving the life of a young boy caught in an undertow at South Padre Island. He was vactioning with college friends at the time of the accident. He is survived by brothers, Joe and Dean; and sisters, Lura June Robbins and Mary Woodall.
___bluebull Patsy Hollandsworth, Nov. 24 in Longview. Over the years, she and her late husband, Earl, gave almost $18 million to Baylor University to fund scholarships, qualifying the couple as the largest single contributors in the university's history. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1983.
