___ Hulme named Baylor v.p. Baylor University President Robert Sloan has named Eileen Hulme vice president for student life. She has served as acting vice president for student life since last June. "Dr. Hulme's values, professional experience and commitment to Baylor's Christian mission uniquely qualify her for this strategic leadership position," Sloan said. Hulme will provide leadership for the 120-member student life division, which includes the areas of campus life, residence life, student development and university ministries. Hulme, who also serves as an adjunct faculty member in the School of Education, joined the Baylor administration in 1999 as assistant vice president for student life. She earned the bachelor's degree in education from Baylor, the master's degree in social science from Azusa Pacific University and doctorate in educational administration from the University of Texas at Austin.
___ Schmeltekopf scholarships awarded. The first Edward Schmeltekopf Servant Leader Scholarships have been awarded to Patrick Adair of Palestine and James Hassell of Amarillo. The scholarship fund was established in 1999 to honor the retired associate executive director of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. The $1,000 scholarships are one-time awards given to a first-year graduate student at Truett Seminary in Waco and to another at Logsdon School of Theology in Abilene. Recipients must have graduated from a BGCT-affiliated university. Adair is a graduate of East Texas Baptist University in Marshall attending Truett. Hassell is a graduate of Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene attending Logsdon.
___ Writers' Festival planned. The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Texas Writers' Festival is slated for Jan. 9-12. Three keynote speakers are David Lee, poet laureate of Utah; Nancy Robinson Masters of Abilene; and Harry Wilmer, who will make a presentation on creativity and dreams. The Texas Council for the Humanities has awarded a grant for the Festival to bring Jan Epton Seale to speak Jan. 12. Seale will present a workshop on the influence of family stories. ___ Infertility seminar offered. First Baptist Church of Dallas will offer a conference for infertile couples and those who support them Jan. 12 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Cost is $12 per couple and includes lunch. Speakers are William Cutrer, a licensed obstetrician/gynecologist who teaches at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., and Sandra Glahn, an adjunct faculty member at Dallas Theological Seminary. ___ Fort Worth hospital merges with Baylor. All Saints Health System in Fort Worth will become Baylor All Saints Medical Centers Jan. 1, according to terms of a merger announced by the two corporations Dec. 20. The merger brings to nine the number of hospitals operated by the Baylor system, plus four affiliated hospitals, two leased hospitals, 32 outpatient clinics, nine rehabilitation clinics, 10 senior health care centers and 11 affiliated surgery centers.
