Burgin leaves BGCT staff for church role
___DALLAS--Jim Burgin has resigned as director of the creative church development department at the Baptist General Convention of Texas to join the staff of Mission Arlington/Mission Metroplex.
___He has worked with the BGCT since September 1997.
___"Jim Burgin has served Texas Baptists in a wonderful way," said E.B. Brooks, coordinator of the BGCT's church health unit. "The Key Church program has grown significantly under his leadership. The number of active Key Churches has more than doubled during his service."
___Key Churches are those that commit to set certain goals for direct missions involvement and church-starting, usually including the hiring of a minister of missions.
___"We regret losing Dr. Burgin," Brooks added. "However, we know he is in a premier Key Church mission ministry where he can make a great difference in the work of our Lord's kingdom."
___At Mission Arlington/Mission Metroplex, Burgin will be returning to his missions roots and working with his mother, Tillie, in the effort which began in 1986 as a ministry of First Baptist Church of Arlington.
___"I will be working with the training and support of the volunteer ministries at Mission Arlington," Burgin said.
___Mission Arlington is run by about 2,000 volunteers and involves more than 60 churches of various denominations.
___Burgin's father, Bob, also works at Mission Arlington, in addition to teaching at Dallas Baptist University and serving as pastor of Abram Street Baptist Church, a congregation Jim Burgin began as a seminary student 15 years ago.
___The younger Burgin also serves as pastor of a congregation, Grace Street Baptist Church, through his work at Mission Arlington.
