for involvement in Pennsylvania
___bluebull Bring a team. Both Tommy Kennedy and Rob Karl have moved to south central Pennsylvania for two-year internships as church starters as part of the Nehemiah Project of the North American Mission Board. They share two needs Texas Baptists can help them with--prayer support and mission teams. Kennedy recently graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. Karl is a student at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, N.C. Kennedy left behind a career as a financial analyst in the corporate world to be a minister. He's now seeking to reach young families in circumstances similar to what he left behind. Both men put out the welcome mat for church groups to come help in short-term projects. And Kennedy added one personal request: "Bring brisket."___
___bluebull Send money. Two Baptist associations in south central Pennsylvania have cooperated in a planning process to better reach the state's capital for Christ. Fulfilling their vision will require an infusion of funding without the usual strings of denominational bureaucracy attached, however. Keystone and South Central Baptist associations are striving to build fellowship among all Baptists in the Harrisburg area, start a church among young professionals and start a church for African-American families.
___bluebull Start a church. An African-American church starter is needed in an urban area of Harrisburg in central Pennsylvania, and a new black congregation in the suburbs of the city needs help with evangelistic efforts. Hal Hopkins, black church extension director for the Pennsylvania/South Jersey Baptist Convention, said someone with a "strong bent toward reaching people" is needed to start a new church. He also "needs to be comfortable in an urban context" and willing to "address issues of justice and injustice." Also, Covenant Community Church, begun in September 1999, needs evangelism teams to help "plant seeds throughout the community." The church meets in a hotel and has reached 53 in Sunday services, but manpower to reach people is a pressing need.
