___ Fenton elected chairman. Leroy Fenton, pastor of First Baptist Church of Waxahachie, has been elected chairman of the Baptist Standard board of directors. Ken Flowers, a retired pastor now living in Kingsland, served as chairman last year and will serve as vice chairman this year. Sammye Cottle, a layperson from First Baptist Church of San Antonio, was re-elected secretary.
___ UMHB graduates 297. Commencement at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor was held Dec. 16, with 297 students receiving degrees.
___ UMHB gets $50,000. The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor received a grant of $50,000 from the Rhodes and Leona Carpenter Foundation of Temple to help with construction of its new convocation/wellness center, a $4 million project.
___ HSU graduates 220. Hardin-Simmons University presented degrees to 220 students during winter commencement ceremonies Dec. 16. Commencement speaker was President Lanny Hall.
___ DBU graduates 332. Dallas Baptist University awarded degrees to 251 undergraduate students and 81 graduate students during commencement ceremonies Dec. 15. Commencement speakers were Bill Pinson, executive director emeritus of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, and Herb Pedersen, director of the BGCT missions division.
___ ETBU graduates 53. Fifty-three students graduated in winter commencement exercises at East Texas Baptist University Dec. 16.
