UMHB receives $250,000 grant. The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor has received a $250,000 grant from the Andersen Foundation of Bayport, Minn., for construction of the Parker Academic Center, a 40,000 square-foot home for both the schools of business and education.

Day of Prayer coordinators sought. Individuals interested in coordinating National Day of Prayer activities in their communities are invited to a conference in Austin Feb. 9-10. Hispanic Outlook likes Baylor. Baylor University has been named a "Publisher's Pick" by the Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education. The magazine recognized Baylor as an institution that attracts and empowers Hispanic students. The magazine also ranked Baylor among the nation's top 100 schools graduating Hispanic students.

HPU alumnus receives presidential medal. Juan Andrade Jr., a Brownwood native and alumnus of Howard Payne University, received the Presidential Citizens Medal from President Bill Clinton during a White House ceremony Jan. 8. Andrade is co-founder and president of the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute in Chicago.

Howard Payne gets grant. The Hillcrest Foundation of Dallas has given a $50,000 grant to Howard Payne University for construction of a central power plant. The gift will be applied toward a challenge grant issued by the Linebery Foundation of Midland.
