___ Parkside Church in Denison will hold a women's luncheon and conference Jan. 27. Linda Lesneiwski of Green Acres Church in Tyler will be the guest speaker.
___ First Church in Denison will be the site of a gospel music sing Feb. 4 at 6 p.m. Doors open at 5 p.m. Included among the performers will be Ephesians III, the Sanctuary Five, Jill Brown and Hanna Rogers. There is no admission charge. Keith Barbee is pastor.
___ First Church of Bellaire will have a note-burning ceremony during the morning service Feb. 18. Frank Minton is pastor.

___Retiring
___ Cortland Savage, Dec. 31, from North End Church in Port Arthur after seven years as minister of music. He had served in various church staff positions in Texas and Florida since 1960.
___ Eddie Mayo, Jan. 7, as pastor of Elliott Church in Hearne after more than 18 years, and 38 years in the ministry. He may be contacted for ministry opportunities at (979) 828-1183.
___ Jim Baggett, Jan. 14, as pastor of Westside Church in Corsicana after four years. He has been in the ministry 50 years, serving as a pastor and as an Air Force chaplain.

___Deaths
___ Roy Johnson, 64, Dec. 16 in San Antonio after suffering a stroke. He was pastor of Calvary Church in Devine since 1992. Johnson had served in the ministry for 45 years following his ordination at Baptist Temple Church in Big Spring. Former pastorates include First Church in Water Valley, First Church in Westbrook, West Side Church in Sweetwater and South Park Church in San Antonio. He also had ministered overseas and in Colorado. Johnson was knowledgeable about theological books and enjoyed helping other pastors set up and develop their libraries. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; sons, Roy and Avery; daughters, Rhea Nell Rogers and Wendy Maron; and 12 grandchildren.
___ Juan Cuellar, 75, Dec. 9. Cuellar was in the ministry for more than 45 years, serving as pastor of La Trinidad in Piedras Negras; El Cavario in Torreon; Buen Pastor and Primera Iglesia and Horeb in Del Rio; Mision Bautista in Rocksprings; and Primera Iglesia and La Fe in Uvalde. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Eunice; sons Juan, Martin, Daniel and Nathan; and nine grandchildren.

___ Gene Miller, 50th, as deacon, Jan. 14. He is a member of Calvary Church in Garland, and previously served for 32 years as minister of music at Junius Heights Church in Dallas.

___ In the Dec. 11 issue of the Baptist Standard, mention was made that the International Baptist Theological Seminary in Cali, Colombia, had been renamed for Ben Welmaker. That is incorrect. The chapel at the seminary has been named for him, not the school.
