Klempnauer retires at Southwestern. Lawrence Klempnauer has retired as vice president for student services at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. A former minister of education at Sagamore Hill Baptist Church and Travis Avenue Baptist Church in Fort Worth, he has been a seminary vice president since 1980. In retirement, Klempnauer will serve as executive director of the Baptist Association of Christian Educators.
___ Sacred Harp sing planned. Hymns from the 18th and 19th centuries sung a cappella will be the music of choice at the annual Sacred Harp Sing at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary Jan. 27. The annual event also will include a luncheon to honor Hugh McGraw, publisher of the 1991 edition of the Sacred Harp, which the seminary uses for its sings. The sing will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the rotunda of Cowden Hall. Admission to the sing and parking are free. The luncheon costs $10 per person.
___ Texans to El Salvador. Three Texas Baptist volunteers were scheduled to leave for El Salvador Jan. 19 as the advance team for a 12-member Texas Baptist Men disaster relief operation in the earthquake ravaged country. Upon arriving in El Salvador, Gary Smith of Dallas, Eddie Fonseca of Canyon Lake and Harry Campbell of Killeen anticipated spending their first two days on the field purchasing and assembling equipment for two field kitchens.
___They were to be joined by nine other Texas Baptist Men volunteers on Jan. 21, and the volunteers expected to start serving meals the next day.
