___bluebull Carter to speak at Baylor. Yale University law professor Stephen Carter, author of "Civility" and "The Culture of Disbelief," will deliver the Emmy Parrish Lecture in American Studies at Baylor University Jan. 25. Carter will speak at 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in Cashion Academic Center. He will speak on "The Role of Civility and Religion in Vocation" and "Civil Engagement and the Nature of Voting." The lectures are free and open to the public.
___bluebull Church goes .com. Fellowship Church in Grapevine will add ".com" to its name, at least whenever it appears in print. That includes changing the church's name on its signs and roof, which can be seen by passengers landing at and taking off from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. The church's new interactive website has received heavy traffic since the church was featured in the Dallas Morning News Jan. 14, said Preston Mitchell, pastor of spiritual development. Ed Young is pastor.
___bluebull Hymnals sought. Missionary Alma Rohm needs hymnals to give volunteer church music directors in Nigeria attending her annual music workshop. Last year, she trained 844 music directors, most of whom live on small incomes. ___bluebull HSU names alumni leader. Jenni Sims Pulley has been named assistant director of alumni relations at Hardin-Simmons University. She will assist alumni director Britt Jones.
___bluebull Ministers' Wives Retreat set. "The Garden of Your Heart" is the theme of the 2001 Ministers' Wives Retreat at Mount Lebanon Encampment April 27-28. Janet White of Longview is featured speaker for the retreat, sponsored by the Baptist General Convention of Texas and Woman's Missionary Union of Texas. Donna Kay Williams of Flower Mound will provide music. The retreat is open to the wives of all Texas Baptist ministers. Cost is $50, which includes three meals, lodging and the registration fee. ___bluebull Groom gives to UMHB. Baltimore Orioles relief pitcher Buddy Groom and his wife, Angela, have established a presidential endowed scholarship at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Groom, now of Ovilla, attended the university from 1984 to 1987. Groom has played for the Detroit Tigers, the Florida Marlins, and was with the Oakland A's from 1996 to 1999 before he was traded to the Orioles.
