Ellis named academic head at HSU
___ABILENE--William Ellis will become vice president for academic affairs at Hardin-Simmons University March 1.
___He will assume the academic responsibilities held by Craig Turner, who becomes

university president June 1.
___Ellis, a 1975 summa cum laude graduate of Hardin-Simmons, was selected by a faculty search committee headed by Jimmie Monhollon, dean of the School of Business.
___In addition to his undergraduate degree from Hardin-Simmons, Ellis earned the doctor of philosophy degree in 1985 from the University of Colorado at Boulder and the master of arts degree in English from Texas Tech University in 1978. He has done additional graduate work at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
___Ellis moves from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkansas, where he has been since 1990. A professor of English, he was appointed acting dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at Ouachita in July 1998. He also has chaired the Arkansas school's English department.
___Ellis previously taught at Mississippi College, Louisiana College, Clarke College, the University of Colorado and Texas Tech.
___He also has been a bivocational pastor since 1994, currently serving Cedar Grove Baptist Church of Arkadelphia, Ark.
___A native of Fort Worth, he is married to the former Diana Lea Edwards. She is assistant professor of voice at Ouachita Baptist University and anticipates receiving the doctor of musical arts degree from the University of North Texas this summer.
___His parents, Ray and Nancy Ellis, live in Abilene. His father is emeritus professor of Greek at Hardin-Simmons. A brother, Robert Ellis, is professor of Old Testament and Hebrew at Logsdon School of Theology.
