___ Houston's South Main leaves SBC. South Main Baptist Church in Houston has voted "with regret" to discontinue 96 years of affiliation with the Southern Baptist Convention. The Jan. 21 vote, approved by a 97 percent majority, was recommended by a denominational relations task force. The church cited its belief that the SBC "abandoned historic Baptist principles by adopting the 2000 Baptist Faith & Message as an instrument of doctrinal accountability." The Houston church is the fourth Texas Baptist church to leave the SBC in recent months.
___ DBU presents 'Experiencing God' musical. Dallas Baptist University will present "Experiencing God ... The Musical" at 2 p.m. March 29 and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. March 30 on the university campus in southwest Dallas. Proceeds will help fund the school's Tom and Alicia Landry Welcome Center. ___ HBU sets open houses. Houston Baptist University will sponsor two open houses for prospective undergraduate students. The College of Arts and Humanities, which encompasses art, Christianity, philosophy, communications, history, political science, languages and music, will have an open house Feb. 6. ___ DBU gets $250,000. Dallas Baptist University has received a $250,000 gift from the Anderson Foundation of Bayport, Minn. Proceeds from the gift will fund scholarships.
___ Texans graduate from New Orleans. Four Texans received degrees from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in December. Francis Kimmitt of Houston earned the doctor of philosophy degree. Jeffrey Perkins of Irving received the doctor of ministry degree. Kuem Ju Lee of Dallas received the master of divinity degree. Patti Watts of Everman received the women's ministry certificate.
