HSU band headed to D.C. The Hardin-Simmons University Cowboy Band will play in the inaugural parade for President-elect George W. Bush in Washington Jan. 20. This will be the sixth presidential inauguration for the Cowboy Band to participate in since 1929, the inauguration of Herbert Hoover.
___ Graham to crusade in Kentucky. Evangelist Billy Graham has announced plans for a June crusade in Louisville, Ky., and has named Southern Baptist Theological Seminary President Al Mohler chairman of the crusade's executive committee.
___ Will Campbell honored. Baptist minister, activist and author Will Campbell was among winners of the National Humanities Medals awarded Dec. 20 by President Clinton. Campbell, a civil rights activist from Mount Juliet, Tenn., was honored for his work on racial justice issues. "From bailing demonstrators out of a Selma jail, to escorting nine black students to Little Rock Central High School, he was an unsung hero of the civil rights struggle," Clinton said.___
___ Historical Society to meet. The Southern Baptist Historical Society will hold its annual meeting at First Baptist Church of Pensacola, Fla., March 22-24. "Baptists and World War II" is the theme. The Society will conduct one major session at the National Museum of Naval Aviation. Papers presented will focus on Baptist women, blacks, music, identity issues and other topics. Speakers include:Rosalie Beck and Bradley Creed of Baylor University and William J. Reynolds of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. For information, call (800) 966-2278.
