___Retiring
___bluebull Ebbie Smith, Feb. 18, after three years as pastor of Garden Acres Church in Burleson, and 39 years in the ministry. He previously served First Church in Conroe, Millersview Church in Millersview, Anderson Church in Anderson, Austinio Church in Crockett and Blum Church in Blum. He also served as a missionary to Indonesia from 1960 to 1974. For the past 25 years, he has been professor of Christian ethics and missions at Southwestern Seminary. He also has written several books and articles. He and his wife, Donna, will be honored with a special dinner at the church at 6 p.m. that evening.

___bluebull River Road Church in Austin held a note-burning ceremony Jan. 29 to celebrate the retirement of a $50,000 United We Build note in 10 months. The note was part of $200,000 total indebtedness the church incurred in the construction of its worship center. Bruce Murray is pastor.
___bluebull Calvary Church in Vernon will have Testify, a men's trio from Louisiana, in concert Feb. 21 at 6:30 p.m.
___bluebull Park Cities Church in Dallas will be the site of the Dallas-Fort Worth Alpha Conference Feb. 26-27. Alpha is a course that covers the basics of Christianity in 15 sessions. Alpha is designed to appeal to and instruct people who don't normally attend church. The Baptist General Convention of Texas and other churches also are sponsors of the event. ___bluebull The women's ministry of First Church in Center will hold a Joy Seekers conference for women March 2-3. Speakers will be Linda Harris, a professor at Stephen F. Austin University, and Sally Smith, wife of Carl Smith, the church's pastor. Registration will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday and at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Music will be presented by Michelle Bauer, Alease Copelin and Grateful Hearts. The cost is $20, which includes lunch. Scholarships are available.
