Bridges to lead BGCT communications
___DALLAS--Becky Bridges of Dallas has been named director of the communications center of the Baptist General Convention of Texas.
___Her election was confirmed by the BGCT Executive Board by mail ballot, said Chris
Liebrum, director of human resources. BGCT Executive Director Charles Wade recommended Bridges for the position.
___For the past three years, Bridges has been team project leader in the communications department of the Southern Baptist Convention Annuity Board in Dallas. She will join the BGCT staff Feb. 26, succeeding Tom Brannon, who retired in December 1999.
___"She is exactly the right person for the task of communicating to the general public about who Texas Baptists are and what they are doing to minister to the people and churches of our state," Wade said.
___Liebrum said the announcement culminated a six-month nationwide search.
___"It's a great opportunity to serve Texas Baptists," Bridges said. "The ministries and churches of the BGCT witness the changing of many lives. I look forward to celebrating their success."
___At the Annuity Board, Bridges managed the production of communications materials for several departments. Prior to that, she was communications coordinator for the Baptist Center for Ethics in Nashville, Tenn.; director of communications for International Baptist Theological Seminary in Rüschlikon, Switzerland; assistant director of admissions for Dallas Baptist University; and account coordinator for McKone and Co. in Irving.
___Bridges, 34, "understands young Baptists, and she understands Baptist history," Wade said. "She is prepared by her experience in Baptist life to help us tell the Baptist story to a new generation of Baptists."
___A member of Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas, Bridges a native of Groom. She holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from Baylor University. This summer she will complete a master of business administration degree at Southern Methodist University.
