___ Baylor alumni association names director. Randy Lofgren has been named executive director of the Baylor Alumni Association. Lofgren has been associate vice president for development at Baylor University. The alumni association is a non-profit organization chartered separately from the university but designed to support the interests of the university and its 90,000 alumni.
___ UMHB receives Hillcrest grant. The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor has received a $125,000 grant from the Hillcrest Foundation of Dallas for construction of the 40,000-square-foot Parker Academic Center, for both the schools of business and education.
___ Labaj named dean. Grace Labaj has been named dean of the Scott & White School of Nursing at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. She joined the faculty in 1970 and became associate dean of the School of Nursing in 1994. UMHB has 100 students in its nursing program and 300 declared nursing majors.
___ Wayland campaign enters second phase. Wayland Baptist University has garnered the support of several key Texans in a new effort to complete fund-raising efforts for the Pete and Nelda Laney Activity Center slated for the Plainview campus. As the campaign enters its second phase, the university seeks to raise funds from 250 individuals or businesses. A statewide advisory committee chaired by Kent Hance of Austin has lent support to the effort. Among others on the advisory committee are former Gov. Dolph Briscoe of Uvalde; Mrs. Bob Bullock of Austin; Nellie Connally of Houston; Jack Hightower of Austin; Herb Kelleher of Dallas; and former Gov. Ann Richards of Austin.
___ McAlexander leaves HSU for Belmont. Dan McAlexander, associate vice president for planning and dean of graduate studies and special programs at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, has been named provost of Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn. He has been professor of piano at HSU since 1978 and has been director of institutional research and assistant to the dean of the School of Music.
___ HPU seminar to focus on faith-based initiatives. "Government and Faith Communities: Allies to Serve the Needy?" will be the topic of a seminar at Howard Payne University in Brownwood Feb. 28. The seminar is sponsored by the Othal Brand Chair of Free Enterprise and Public Policy. It begins at 10 a.m. and concludes at 4 p.m. For more information, call (915) 649-8046.
