ABBOTT CHURCH in Abbott will celebrate its 125th anniversary April 29. The day will begin with a 10 a.m. tent service at the Liberty Grove Cemetery, continue with a noon meal at the Abbott (the original church site) and end with a celebration and remembrance service at the community center. ___bluebull Apollo Heights Church in El Paso, 20th, March 17-18. A dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, and there will be special services in both the morning and evening on Sunday. There will be time for singing, recognition of former pastors and music directors, visuals and photos, early church history and fellowship. Dag Sewell is pastor.

___bluebull Getsemani Church in Fort Worth recently celebrated a land donation by Mercantile Partners L.P. with a "Promised Land Celebration." At the end of the dedication service, Pastor Julio Guarneri invited everyone to take a rock from the new property as a reminder of God's fulfillment of his promises to his people. Tom Law, director of missions for Tarrant Association, and Roberto Cotto, Hispanic consultant for the association, also were present.
___bluebull First Church in Bellaire will present its Easter pageant April 8 at 10:45 a.m. and 6 p.m. and at 7 p.m. April 9. The performance will include the adult and children's choirs, a full orchestra, actors and drama from the musical "Amazing Love" by Bruce Greer. The musical tells the Easter story from the perspective of John. There is no admission charge, and a nursery will be available for children up to 3 years of age. ___bluebull The Texas Baptist Creative Arts Festival will be held April 20-21 at Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth. This will be a gathering to demonstrate and share ways of presenting the gospel of Jesus Christ, including drama, clowning, puppetry and other creative arts. Cost will be $35 per person for early registration or $50 per person for late registration. The deadline to register is April 2. For more information, call (888) 876-6530.
___bluebull Bill Shadle, former minister of music at First Church in Denton, will be honored with a reception at the church May 27 from 4-6 p.m. Organizers of the event are seeking addresses of out-of-town friends, former church members and associates. Addresses can be sent to Shadle Celebration, P.O. Box 51137, Denton 76206. Shadle is credited with bringing the first "Living Christmas Tree" presentation to North Texas in 1973.

___Retiring
___bluebull Merlin Morrow as professor of physical education at Hardin-Simmons University for 20 years. His teaching career spans 43 years. He will retire at the end of the spring term. Morrow came to Hardin-Simmons from Howard Payne University as head of the physical education department and added the responsibilities of athletic director in 1989. Among his achievements was leading a reorganization of the department that saw the reinstatement of women's basketball after a four-year absence, and football, which had endured a 27-year hiatus. New baseball and football stadiums also were built during his tenure. Morrow, a Sunday School teacher at First Church in Abilene, is a past chairman of the deacon body.
