Buckner seeks adoptive home
for twin boys with special need

___Buckner Adoption and Maternity Services is seeking an adoptive home for a special set of twin boys.
___Alex and Max Serna are active 3-year-olds. As do many boys their age, Alex and Max enjoy outside activities. Both boys enjoy running in the park, imitating football players and interacting with animals.
___As they continue to develop their individuality, their personalities are blossoming. They

ALEX AND MAX
embrace the Teletubbies and Barney characters to give them comfort during the nighttime sleeping hours.
___Although Alex is the oldest, he is slightly smaller than Max. During their first three years, the two have achieved major developmental milestones such as sitting up, crawling, speaking their first words and walking, all within the normal range. One area where Alex and Max could use special concentration is speech development.
___What's different about these two children, who physically appear to be normal, is that they have a genetic condition that may lead to the development of tumors on nerve points. The condition, neurofibromatosis, can lead to serious health problems or even death if a tumor is inoperable.
___However, as the boys already have proved, the diagnosis alone does not prevent Alex or Max from having productive and meaningful lives, noted Adela Jones, clinical director of domestic adoption for Buckner Adoption and Maternity Services.
___"With a loving, structured environment, these two children can flourish to the potential God has given them," she said. "As God has specially molded the boys, we believe he has also molded a special family for them."
___The boys need a family with "several essential qualities," Jones said. "First, an adoptive couple must embrace a child's heritage and personal abilities. Specific to adopting older children, families must have patience and commitment to the child while he or she is transitioning to a new environment."
___Max and Alex are not the only special-needs children Buckner has for placement.
___Jones said Buckner also is seeking families to adopt older children and children of color.
___"If you feel God leading you to share your heart with an African-American child, please call us. Over the next few weeks, we trust God will answer our prayers for families for two newborns."
___Readers specifically interested in providing a permanent home for Alex and Max should contact Adela Jones at (214) 381-1552 or by email ajones@buckner.org.
___Anyone interested in Buckner Adoption and Maternity Services' infant adoption program may call the same number but ask the receptionist for an information packet.
