___ Three receive Carroll awards. Three families were honored by Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with this year's B.H. Carroll Awards. David and Charis Smith of Houston, Don and Elizabeth O'Neal of Euless and the family of Faye McCombs received the awards from President Ken Hemphill. McCombs was honored posthumously.
___ IMB elects treasurer. David Steverson has been elected vice president for finance and treasurer of the Southern Baptist International Mission Board. A former missionary to Thailand, Steverson most recently has been associate vice president for finance. He succeeds Carl Johnson, who retired in January. Steverson becomes the first chief financial officer in the board's 156-year history to come from the ranks of the missionary force.
___ CBF gifts down. At mid-year, contributions to the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship are down 4 percent from last year. Total contributions for the first half of the fiscal year exceeded $6.2 million, but fell slightly behind last year's pace. Receipts for the CBF Global Missions Offering were virtually even with last year. Nancy Duncan, the Fellowship's chief financial officer, said most of the decline was in designated giving. An emphasis on relief ministries to Kosovo last year pushed designated contributions to record highs.
___ IMB vice president to retire. Don Kammerdiener, executive vice president of the SBC International Mission Board, has announced plans to retire Sept. 30. Kammerdiener has served through the IMB almost 40 years as a missionary and administrator.
