___bluebull HBTS names librarian. Edith Pequeno has been named librarian at Hispanic Baptist Theological School in San Antonio. She is a graduate of the school and holds additional degrees from Dallas Baptist University, the University of Texas at Arlington and the University of North Texas. She previously was assistant librarian at Palo Alto College.
___bluebull Wombles give courtroom. Tom and Mary Jane Womble of Houston have pledged $250,000 for construction of a courtroom to be included in the new Elwin Skiles Social Sciences Building at Hardin-Simmons University. This room will replicate an actual courtroom and will be used as a teaching facility. Both Wombles are 1965 graduates of HSU. He is a Houston attorney. They are members of Second Baptist Church in Houston.
___bluebull Students explore missions. About 175 college students recently participated in the annual Texas Baptist student missions interview weekend. The weekend included time for worship, prayer, small group discussion, mission projects and seeking spiritual direction about involvement in summer missions programs.
___bluebull BSU director retiring. Palmer McCown, director of Hardin-Simmons University's Baptist Student Ministry since 1979, will retire May 31. His tenure as HSU's student minister is the longest of any director in the university's history.
___bluebull Wayland preview coming. Wayland Baptist University's college preview celebration, "Big Weekend," is scheduled for March 23-24 on the Plainview campus. The event for high school juniors and seniors also will feature a concert by the Christian rock group Caedmon's Call, with The Normals and Sandra McCracken. Cost for the weekend is $20 per student, which covers lodging, all meals and events. The fee for parents and sponsors is $15. For registration information, contact Wayland's admissions office at (800) 588-1928.
___bluebull Realtor funds Landry Welcome Center at DBU. Ebby Halliday Acers has donated $100,000 to Dallas Baptist University to help fund the Tom and Alicia Landry Welcome Center. The founder of Ebby Halliday Realtors is a longtime supporter of DBU. The new welcome center will become home to the university's recruiting and admissions programs.
___bluebull Gulf Coast names Hintze. Donald Hintze has been named associate executive director of missions for Gulf Coast Baptist Association. He has been pastor of Temple Baptist Church in Clute the last 18 years.
