Texans take top awards with Baptist Communicators ___COLUMBIA, S.C.--Texans swept three of the seven grand prizes in this year's Baptist Communicators awards competition, including top honors for electronic media, news writing and print media design. ___This was the fourth consecutive year for Texans to take top national honors in news writing for articles published in the Baptist Standard. ___This year's Frank Burkhalter Award in news writing went to Mark Wingfield, managing editor of the Standard, for his ongoing coverage in the late summer and fall of proposed budget changes in the Baptist General Convention of Texas. ___In the previous three years, BCA's top news writing award has been won by BGCT writers Dan Martin and Ken Camp and by Martin and Camp working in conjunction with the Standard staff. ___Scott Collins and Russ Dilday of Buckner Benevolences won the M.E. Dodd Award in electronic media for their video about Buckner programs titled "For This Moment." ___The Baylor University public relations office, headed by Larry Brumley, won the Albert McClellan Award in print media and design for a poster to promote the university's "Art & Soul" literary conference. ___The Baptist Standard also won recognition this year as the best-designed state Baptist newspaper in the nation. ___BCA is a national professional organization for Baptist writers, editors, artists, public relations workers, webmasters, photographers, videographers, marketers and fund-raisers. This year's winners in the Wilmer C. Fields Awards Competition were announced during the association's annual workshop in Columbia, S.C. ___Other Texans winning BCA recognition include: ___ Jerilynn Armstrong, April Hull and Dennis Amber of the Annuity Board, first place for national public relations or development campaign for their work on Adopt an Annuitant Sunday. Armstrong also took second place for newsletter feature article. ___ Scott Collins of Buckner, first place for music videos and first place for newspaper photography. The Buckner communications office, which Collins directs, also corporately won second place for limited audience magazine for "Buckner Today." ___ Russ Dilday of Buckner, first place in editorial writing for a magazine and second placed for interpretive news writing series. ___ Amy Seale of Buckner, second place for design of specialty items and first place for design of a print advertisement. ___ Martin Coleman of FamilyNet, a subsidiary of the North American Mission Board's broadcast unit based in Fort Worth, first place for video commercial or public service announcement. Coleman joined with co-workers Chuck Ries and Kirk Teegarden to win first place for audio commercial or public service announcement as well. ___ Lisa Young Bratton of Family Net, first place for design of a direct-mail advertising campaign. ___ East Texas Baptist University and Details Communications, first place for design of a brochure or booklet for the school's viewbook. ___ Baylor University's public relations office, first place for illustration, cartoon or informational graphic, second place for design of a single-piece direct-mail and first place for design of an annual report. ___ Mark Wingfield of the Standard, first place in investigative reporting series for "And Nothing but the Truth ...," an in-depth look at accusations against Texas Baptist leaders by Roger Moran of Missouri. Wingfield also took second place in investigative reporting single article, along with Bob Allen of Associated Baptist Press, for a piece documenting a nearly $1 million settlement between Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and Woman's Missionary Union over disputed assets of the former Carver School of Church Social Work.
