Cinco de Mayo evangelism meet planned
___TEXARKANA--Members of Hispanic Baptist churches in the Ark-La-Tex region will gather May 5 at Primera Baptist Church of Texarkana for a Hispanic Evangelism Conference.
___"Cinco de Mayo (May 5) is one of the largest celebrations for Mexican-Americans," explained Primera Pastor Juan Puente. "At Pueblo on May 5, the armies of Mexico stopped an invading French army and sent them home."
___Speakers for the Cinco de Mayo Evangelism Conference, which begins at 9 a.m. and closes at 4:30 p.m., include Albert Reyes, president of Hispanic Baptist Theological School in San Antonio, and Tony Guerra, pastor of Primera Iglesia Bautista Hispana in Pittsburg.
___The conference also will feature seminars led by Patty Villarreal, church community and Hispanic ministries consultant for the Baptist General Convention of Texas; Roberto Castillo, assistant pastor at Nueva Vida Baptist Church in Garland; David Tamez of Primera Baptist Church of Tyler; and Otto Arango, pastor of Getsemani Baptist Church of McAllen.
___"This is the fulfillment of a dream Juan and I shared," said Timothy Johns, pastor of Rose Hill Baptist Church of Texarkana, Primera's sponsoring church.
___Rose Hill will provide facilities and volunteers to care for the children of participants.
