Opponents on abortion forge private dialogue

___BOSTON (RNS)--Hours after gunman John Salvi opened fire on two Massachusetts abortion clinics on Dec. 30, 1994, Nicki Nichols Gamble and Fran Hogan stood face-to-face at a local television studio, calm enough to address millions but too passionate to speak to each other. Today, after years of sustained dialogue, they're even more established in their positions on the issue, but they have come to appreciate each other on a personal level.

Dying church brought back to life by determination of two women

Huge number of non-readers need to hear gospel in new way

___PARIS--Non-readers may be the largest unreached people group in Texas, according to speakers at a conference on the missions challenge of reaching oral learners.
___The National Adult Literacy Survey revealed that more than half of the population of Texas is illiterate (unable to read or write) or functionally illiterate (unable to read and write above the 8th grade level).
___While some of these individuals are highly proficient in a language other than English, a significant number are true oral-style communicators who learn in a way totally different than literate-style communicators.

Sudanese family escapes persecution

___KANSAS CITY, Mo. (ABP) --Torn from his family, severely beaten and forced to live and work in subhuman conditions, Rol Deng has seen religious persecution first hand.
___And he wants American Christians to know and pray about their fellow believers in Sudan who he says are being killed or sold into slavery because of their faith.
___Deng and his family now live in Kansas City, Mo. His war-torn homeland of Sudan is ruled by Muslim extremists who oppose Christianity.
