Wayland trustees approve budget
___PLAINVIEW--Wayland Baptist University's board of trustees have approved a $27.22 million budget for 2001-02, including a slight increase in regular semester tuition rates for the Plainview campus and a reduction in summer tuition rates.
___Undergraduate tuition will increase from $250 to $260 per credit hour, with graduate tuition rates moving from $260 to $265 per credit hour.
___In an effort to involve more students in Wayland-Plainview's three summer micro-term offerings, trustees approved a recommendation from the finance committee to lower those tuition rates by half, from $260 per credit hour to $130 for undergraduate and from $265 per credit hour to $155 for graduate courses.
___Wayland's 11 external campuses will experience no change in tuition rates.
___The board also approved a motion to name the recently acquired Bethesda Manor property, located at 7th and Borger Streets, after Dorothy McCoy. McCoy began teaching mathematics at Wayland in 1949 and continued until 1975. Since then, she has remained a friend and avid supporter of the university and still holds the title of distinguished professor emeritus in math.
___Trustees concluded their gathering by attending groundbreaking ceremonies for a 50-bed women's dormitory. The $1.3 million facility will feature an all-suite format and will be open for students beginning next fall.
