___ Freeman to Duke. Curtis Freeman, professor of Christianity and philosophy at Houston Baptist University, will become the director of the Baptist House of Studies at Duke University Divinity School. He also will be a research professor of theology and Baptist studies in the divinity school. Freeman is a graduate of Baylor University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
___ Jones, Ayers to receive ABP awards. Retired Fort Worth Star-Telegram religion editor Jim Jones has been named 2001 recipient of the Associated Baptist Press Religious Freedom Award. The award, which honors individuals whose achievements advance the principles and practice of religious freedom, particularly in the field of journalism, will be presented this fall. ABP directors also voted to present the organization's Founders Award, which honors significant financial support to the Jacksonville, Fla.,-based news organization, to Patricia Ayres of Austin.
___ Southwestern hires Breshears. Joseph Breshears, a Fort Worth attorney, has joined the staff of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary as executive director of development and general counsel. He left a similar position with the Baptist Foundation of Texas, an agency of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. He is a graduate of the Baylor University Law School. He and his family are members of Southcliff Baptist Church in Fort Worth.
___ Southeastern requires BF&M. Trustees of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary have affirmed a bylaw change requiring all faculty to publicly sign the Southern Baptist Convention's Baptist Faith & Message statement as amended last year. Southeastern faculty will be required to sign both the Baptist Faith & Message and the seminary's Abstract of Principles. Only one trustee voted against the new requirement when it was considered during the board's April 9-10 meeting on the Wake Forest, N.C., campus.
