Ill-behaving members lead to clergy burnout

___ST. LOUIS (RNS)--Bad behavior from church members is the leading cause of clergy burnout, according to a team of researchers hired by the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
___Alan and Cheryl Klaas of Mission Growth Ministries were hired by the Lutheran Church to investigate the root causes of the clergy shortage it and many other mainline denominations currently face.
___"The fundamental finding is that people beating on each other is the main issue,' Klaas said.

Video gambling machines double in Texas in 2 years

___Video slot machines have been called the "crack cocaine" of compulsive gambling. And in far too many Texas counties, nobody is waging this particular war on drugs, according to a longtime Texas Baptist gambling opponent.
___The Texas Department of Public Safety and officials in the video gambling industry estimate Texas now has 40,000 to 45,000 video slot machines operating--more than double the number in the state two years ago.

Christian families face 'too much pressure'

___ABILENE--The Christian family is buckling under the weight of unreasonable expectations, theologian Stanley Hauerwas said during Hardin-Simmons University's first T.B. Maston Christian Ethics Lectures.
___Hauerwas, professor of theological ethics at the Duke University Divinity School, delivered the lectures at HSU's Logsdon School of Theology April 9-10.

Arlington student drowns while attending Hispanic Congreso

___CORPUS CHRISTI--An 18-year-old Arlington student attending the Texas Hispanic Youth and Singles Congreso drowned while swimming in Corpus Christi Bay April 13.
___Terrance Williams was a senior at Bowie High School and member of Primera Iglesia Bautista in Arlington.
