___ DBU honors Weidner. Dallas Baptist University presented the Decatur Baptist College Distinguished Alumnus Award to John Weidner April 27 during the annual Decatur Baptist College spring reunion. A 1958 graduate of Decatur Baptist College, the precursor to Dallas Baptist University, Weidner worked with Conoco Chemical for 24 years and in 1984 was named chief financial officer of Vista Chemical Co. He and his wife, Shirley, reside in Lake Brownwood and have a home on the family farm near Dublin.
___ HBTS benefits from estate. Hispanic Baptist Theological School in San Antonio received a $168,000 bequest April 3 from the estate of the late Elizabeth Rose Blount. A longtime supporter of the school, Blount died Oct. 1 at age 88. She had been a member of Manor Baptist Church in San Antonio. Joe Levine, executor for the Blount estate, presented the check to school President Albert Reyes and Board of Trustees Chairman Mario Ramos during the board's April 3 meeting. "The former teacher lived a very frugal lifestyle and saved her money to advance the causes of the kingdom," said Dan Rivera, vice president for institutional advancement at the school.
___ The Woodlands gets LifeWay store. The newest location for LifeWay Christian Stores will open in The Woodlands May 2, with a grand opening celebration slated for May 12. The store is located in the Portofino shopping center at the intersection of I-45 and Tamina/Research Forest Road. Grand opening festivities will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May
___12, with Little Dogs on the Prairie characters, Scout and Darcy, welcoming customers, and Christian radio station KKHT 1070/The Word broadcasting from the store. On May 26, VeggieTales characters Bob and Larry will greet customers from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
___ Scholarship honors Schoenrock. A presidential endowed scholarship has been established at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor as a memorial to Nancy Schoenrock, who served as dean of the Scott & White School of Nursing at the university until her death last October.
___ Dallas couple gives scholarship. The John and Etolia (Toby) Saringer Tomorrow's Leaders Endowed Scholarship has been established at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor by gifts from the estates of John and Etolia Saringer of Dallas. The $250,000 gift is the culmination of a longtime relationship with the university, dating back to when John Saringer delivered newspapers on campus as a boy.
___ DBU to honor Anderson. Dallas Baptist University will present its 2001 Good Samaritan Award to Ron Anderson, president of Parkland Health and Hospital Systems. The university also will honor the Communities Foundation of Texas. The presentations will be made during the school's annual Oak Cliff Partnership Dinner May 3.
___ Baylor produces Fulbright scholars. Two Baylor University students have been named Fulbright scholars, one of the most prestigious of all academic honors in the United States. The scholarships provide complete funding for a year of study abroad. Baylor recipients are Holley Ewell, a music major, and Travis Frampton, who is completing his doctorate in religion. Frampton also serves as visiting assistant professor of biblical studies at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene.
