___Jakie Shirley after six years as minister of music /senior adults and two years as associate pastor at Immanuel Church in Temple. He has served Texas churches for 46 years, 44 of those in the music ministry. The church will honor him April 29 with specialguests and testimonies at the 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. services. DOL UNEN (center), a junior from Mongolia, has been named Miss East Texas Baptist University. First runner-up is Teresa Redd (left) of Nacogdoches. Second runner-up is Sarah Pardue of Beaumont. They were named March 31.

___Carl Pogue, 85, March 8 in Houston. He was one of the original Texas Baptist Retiree Builders.
___Wendell Truitt Newman, 61, April 1 in Glorieta, N.M. He was manager of events at LifeWay conference center in Glorieta and previously served as youth minister at Park Cities Church in Dallas and First Church in Tyler. He is survived by his wife, Michele; daughter Kelly Kirkpatrick of Nashville, Tenn.; son Jonathan of St. Petersburg, Fla.; grandchildren Alexandra and Isaac Newman of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and sisters Ganelle Pearce of Lubbock, Norma Allgood of Longview and Karen Hunt of Dumas.

___Rick Ballard of McKinney has been named Collin Association executive director. He has been serving as director of church extension and church growth at the association for four years.
___Members of First Church in Floydada will travel to Reedsburg, Wis., on a mission trip in July. They will do construction and backyard Bible clubs.
___Mission Hale Center is restoring a building that will house the Christian Women's Job Corps there.

___Eastridge Church in Palo Pinto Association will constitute as a church April 22. ___Members of Crossroads Church in Azle will travel to San Luis Potosi in Mexico July 13-21 on a mission trip.
___Ted Gross, pastor of First Church in Cameron, has returned from a two-week mission trip to Kiev, Ukraine, where he and other team members taught English classes at Central Baptist Church. More than 375 people made professions of faith through the classes and an evangelistic service.
___The FIRM Area is planning a mission trip to Manitowoc, Wis., July 20, where volunteers will conduct backyard Bible clubs, evangelistic services, youth sports clubs and do construction work at Anchor Baptist Fellowship. Harold Cook is director of missions.
___Everyday Christian Fellowship in Schertz has been started as a mission, sponsored by Oakwood Church in Alamo City and Central Church in Luling. Corey Webb is pastor.
___Texas Baptist Men Retiree Builders are building an education building at Lakeside Church in New Braunfels.
___Lakeview Baptist Assembly will conduct a senior adult retreat May 8-10. Steve Packer, pastor of First Church in Pittsburg, will speak. ___Center Hill Church in Linden will present "His Last Days," an Easter drama, April 12-14 at 7 p.m.
___Pioneer Drive Church in Abilene will present "Jesus, His Story," a musical depicting the life of Christ, April 10-14.
___First Church in Whitesboro has started an after-school mentoring ministry called ARK for at-risk children. The school district helped identify students who needed help.
