Davis named director of BGCT evangelism center

___Rick Davis, pastor of First Baptist Church in Midlothian, has been named director of the Center for Strategic Evangelism at the Baptist General Convention of Texas.
___The BGCT Administrative Committee elected Davis to the post May 3. His selection came as a recommendation of the State Missions Commission.
___BGCT Executive Director Charles Wade praised Davis as "an effective personal soul-winner" who has demonstrated creativity in "finding ways to touch an entire community" with the gospel message.
___"There are more than 10 million unchurched people in Texas. I have prayed earnestly that God would give us a leader who could help our churches be more and more effective in evangelism," Wade said. "I am grateful to God that Rick Davis could take up this challenge."
___E.B. Brooks, coordinator of the BGCT church missions and evangelism section, praised Davis as having "a pastor's heart with a passion for evangelism."
___ First Baptist Church of Midlothian will baptize more than 50 people in the first six months of the current church year.
___Davis, 47, has served the Midlothian congregation since 1988. Previously, he was pastor of Baptist churches in Dallas, Stanton, Big Spring, Cleburne and Goldthwaite.
___Davis has preached in hundreds of revivals, evangelistic crusades, camps and Bible conferences. He participated in the "Here's Hope" evangelistic crusades in Japan in 1984, and he preached in a spiritual retreat for International Mission Board missionaries in Togo and Ghana in 1999.
___He served in the mid-1980s as an adjunct professor at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Hardin-Simmons University.
___He is a former trustee of Howard Payne University and Circle Six Ranch Baptist Camp, and he has served on a variety of denominational committees.
___He earned the bachelor's degree from Howard Payne University, then the master of divinity and doctor of ministry degrees from Southwestern.
___He and his wife, Joan, have two adult children and one grandchild.
