Maples retiring as executive associate
___After four decades in the ministry, Dick Maples will retire May 31 as executive associate of the Baptist General Convention of Texas.
___Maples, who turns 67 May 19, has served as associate to the convention's executive director for more than a year, and he has served on the BGCT Executive Board staff six years.
___As executive associate, Maples was staff liaison with major study committees appointed by the convention and with standing BGCT committees.
___Before assuming the post, he was the first coordinator of the office of minister/church relations. He served as a pastor 34 years, including 16 at First Baptist Church in Bryan.
___He is a former president and first vice president of the BGCT. He also served on the BGCT Executive Board, the Administrative Committee, the Christian Life Commission and the minister/church relations task force. He has been a trustee of Hardin-Simmons University, the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and East Texas Baptist University.
___Maples and his wife, Mary Jo, have two adult children.
