BGCT promotes McGowan & Ruane
___DALLAS--The Center for Collegiate Ministries of the Baptist General Convention of Texas will have new leadership June 1, as the director for the past five years steps into a new role created May 3 by the BGCT Administrative Committee.
___Bruce McGowan, 47, will be the new director of collegiate ministries. He has been associate director since July 1993. As director, McGowan will lead BGCT ministries on more than 100 college campuses.
___Tom Ruane, 55, who has directed Baptist student work in Texas since March 1996, will become associate coordinator of the institutional ministries section, which relates to all 23 institutions affiliated with the BGCT, as well as collegiate ministries and theological education. His primary role will be in promotion, communication, associational and church relationships, and resource enhancement.
___McGowan, a member of Hampton Road Baptist Church in DeSoto, also has served Texas Baptists as BSU director at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, UT Pan American in Edinburg, UT Brownsville, Texas State Technical College in Harlingen and Eastfield Junior College near Dallas. He holds degrees from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is working toward a doctorate at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, Calif.
___Ruane, a member of Park Meadows Baptist Church in Waxahachie, was associate director of collegiate ministries for almost 17 years before becoming director. Prior to that, he was Baptist Student Union director at the University of Texas at Arlington, Howard Payne University in Brownwood and Tarleton State University in Stephenville. He holds degrees from Howard Payne, Southwestern Seminary and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
