Baylor names regents, adds two degrees ___WACO--Baylor University's board of regents at their May meeting approved a $260.7 million operating budget for 2001-2002, authorized new doctoral programs in philosophy and physical therapy and elected three new members to the board. ___Elected to three-year terms as regents were Joseph Armes of Dallas and Tommy Bowman and Sue Getterman of Waco. Six current regents were re-elected to three-year terms: Dale Jones, Dallas; Joe Coleman, Houston; Will Davis, Austin; Ted Snider, Little Rock, Ark.; Laree Perez, Corrales, N.M.; and Neal Jones, Falls Church, Va. ___Armes is executive vice president and chief financial officer for Southwest Sports Group and Southwest Sports Realty in Dallas. He and his wife, Kelly, are members of Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas. Bowman is director of Linehaul, Central Freight Lines Inc. He and his wife, Jacqueline, are members of First Baptist Church (NBC), Waco; Getterman is a philanthropist and volunteer. She and her husband, Ted, are members of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church. ___The board also elected officers, with John Wilkerson Jr. of Lubbock re-elected chairman and Drayton McLane of Temple re-elected vice chair. Two new vice chairs were elected: Billy Ray Hearn of Nashville, Tenn., and Charles Wise of Gatesville. ___Next year's budget includes a $3.8 million increase in institutionally funded scholarships and fellowships and $9.7 million for capital projects. ___A new Ph.D. program in philosophy will admit its first students in the fall of 2003. The five-year, 78-semester-hour program will emphasize the historical aspects of philosophy, particularly in relation to ethics and religion. ___This summer, Baylor will add a doctor of science in physical therapy degree to its programs at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio. The Army's only other such program is offered at West Point.
