___DALLAS--Helping churches and related ministries to "be the presence of Christ in the world" will be the new mission of the Baptist General Convention of Texas.
___At its May 22 meeting, the BGCT Executive Board unanimously approved the mission statement, a set of core values and a vision for the next three years as presented by the convention's Strategic Planning Committee.
___The strategic plan will be presented to the full convention at the BGCT annual session Oct. 29-30 in Dallas.
___The new mission statement reflected the committee's desire to "let doing flow from being," according to BGCT Executive Director Charles Wade.
___"If we are the body of Christ, ... then we are the continuing incarnation of our Lord," Wade told the Executive Board. "This puts the task of being his continuing presence in the hands of his empowered people."
___Ellis Orozco of Calvary Baptist Church in McAllen served as chairman of the 62-member committee, which included representatives from each geographic zone, the Executive Board, the Administrative Committee, institutional ministries and missions organizations.
___A complete report on the Strategic Planning Committee report was published in the Standard's May 14 issue and is available in the paper's online archives at www.baptiststandard.com.
