___ Creed to Samford. Brad Creed, former dean and current professor of Christian history at Baylor University's Truett Theological Seminary, has been named associate provost at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala. He will join the faculty later this summer. "Brad Creed is among the best and brightest of a new generation of Baptist educational leaders," said Samford President Tom Corts. "He has the dedicated heart and the alert mind this task demands."

___ Wilkin receives honorary degree. Marijohn Wilkin, songwriter, music publisher, recording artist and performer, received an honorary doctor of humanities degree from Hardin-Simmons University April 30. As a student at HSU in the late 1930s, she was the first female vocalist to sing with the Cowboy Band. She is the composer of several hit songs, including "One Day at a Time," "The Scars in the Hands of Jesus," "I Have Returned" and "The Long Black Veil."
___ Abilene woman to be honored. Loretta Fulton, religion and higher education writer for the Abilene Reporter-News, has been named recipient of the 2001 Texas Baptist Communications Award. The award is presented annually by the Baptist General Convention of Texas Communications Advisory Committee to a person who has made significant contributions to the religious life of Texas. Fulton is an active member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Abilene.

___ Biblical equality conference planned. Christians for Biblical Equality will hold a conference June 22-24 in Dallas called "Equipping the Church, Empowering the Saints." Executive Director Mimi Haddad said the event will offer "encouragement and biblical support to Christians who hold the priesthood of all believers dear, the authority of Scriptures sacred and the ministry of the laity a cherished tradition." Speakers include Waco pastor Julie Pennington-Russell, New Testament scholar Gordon Fee and author Richard Foster.
