Houston ministry employs pets as ambassadors of love

___HOUSTON--Hands, wrinkled by time, reach out to stroke a dog's fur. The woman's eyes grow brighter, her smile bigger.
___Faithful Friends, an "animal-assisted therapy ministry" of University Baptist Church in Houston, is using pets to show God's love to nursing home residents and hospital patients.
___The Baptist General Convention of Texas honored Faithful Friends recently with its annual Genesis Award for an "innovative community ministry." It was presented at the Servanthood Ministries Awards Reception in Corpus Christi.

BGCT missions study committee recommends modest changes

___Although expressing significant concerns about some aspects of missions work done by the Southern Baptist Convention, a study committee of the Baptist General Convention of Texas has recommended few changes on the BGCT's part.
___The most significant recommendation of the BGCT's Missions-sending Agencies Study Committee report, released May 3, is to retain in Texas about $1.28 million of Cooperative Program money that is sent to the North American Mission Board and then spent by NAMB in Texas.

Buckner proposes trustee change

___In what is being hailed as a potential model for other agencies, Buckner Baptist Benevolences has worked with the Baptist General Convention of Texas to amend Buckner's bylaws related to the trustee-selection process. Currently, the BGCT elects 100 percent of the Buckner trustee board. Under the new proposal, the Buckner board would elect two-thirds of its members while allowing the BGCT to elect one-third.
