Lisa Olson, a Southern Baptist representative in northern Africa who died suddenly May 31, was killed by an acute, untreatable inflammation of the heart, according to a medical examiner in Albuquerque, N.M., her hometown. The inflammation apparently was caused by a virus attacking the

___bluebull Gay protestors arrested. New Orleans police arrested 34 pro-homosexual demonstrators who were protesting June 13 against the Southern Baptist Convention's position on homosexuality. The protestors were members of Soulforce, a national network of homosexual activists led by Mel White. Marching Mardi Gras-style with a rented jazz band out front, about 70 protestors carrying a large gray casket draped with a rainbow-colored flag marched up Poydras Avenue to hold a press conference in front of the Louisiana Superdome, where the SBC annual meeting was underway.
___bluebull Annuity Board wants to empower volunteers. The Annuity Board wants to help develop the greatest force of mission volunteers ever seen, O.S. Hawkins told messengers to the Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting June 12. The next two generations of ministers will live longer than anyone in history, and will be capable of many more years of active service after vocational retirement, predicted Hawkins, president of the Dallas-based SBC agency. Helping ministers be financially secure in retirement will make it possible for them to do more volunteer mission work and continue to be "partners in the harvest," he said.
