ELEVEN PEOPLE from First Church in Onalaska traveled to Oklahoma recently to work with the Kiowa Indians at First American Baptist Church in Hobart. The team not only led a Vacation Bible School that saw four professions of faith in Jesus Christ, but also painted the interior of the church. Pastor Don Wilkey (center of back row) said a young man who surrendered to preach, an important step among a people with a shortage of pastors.

___bluebull Youth from five Texas churches recently attended SonPower, an annual music event held in Orlando, Fla. The youth joined more than 1,200 teens who spent the week rehearsing, participating in Bible studies, assisting the Greater Orlando Baptist Association in mission opportunities and taking part in worship services. Texas churches participating were Spring Church in Spring, McDonald Memorial Church in Orange, First Church in Silsbee, First Church in Edna and Coulter Road Church in Amarillo.
___bluebull Kathleen Baker has been named instructor of communication at Hardin-Simmons University beginning in August.
___bluebull Heritage Church in Annapolis, Md., is seeking information on students who will attend the U.S. Naval Academy this year. The church has a history of ministry to many midshipmen. People with information should call (410) 263-6680.

___bluebull Jack Mills, 50th in the ministry, July 29 at New York Church in LaRue. Mills, pastor of the LaRue church, also is head of the Jack Mills Evangelistic Association, which focuses on helping small churches and evangelistic work in the Ukraine.
___bluebull Robert Prothro, 25th in the ministry. He is pastor of Eden Hills Church in Wichita Falls.
___bluebull First Southern Church of Fritch, 50th, Aug. 5. A luncheon and a praise celebration will follow the morning service.

___Deaths
___bluebull Eugene Cross, 84, July 8. Cross, an emeritus Southern Baptist missionary to Hawaii and the Philippines, was appointed in 1947. He worked, along with his wife, Ardis, as a general evangelist in Hawaii until 1954, when they were transferred to the Philippines. He helped start mission congregations and worked with church leaders in Makati, Manila and Pasay City until his retirement in 1981. He also served as a chaplain with the U.S. Army during World War II in Hawaii, New Guinea and the Philippines. He is survived by his wife; daughter, Elizabeth Villarreal; son, Micah; and one grandson.
___bluebull Carolyn Leonard, 72, July 10 in Oklahoma City. Leonard died in an automobile accident that also claimed the life of her husband's sister, Roberta Stevens. She served with her husband, Jesse, while he was pastor of Texas churches in Leslie, Turkey, McLean, Bonham, Houston, Midland, Amarillo, Lakeside, Magnolia and Ingram, as well as churches in Washington and Georgia. She is survived by her husband; daughters, Gina Ireland and Gay Ivey; sons, Ray and Jay; and six grandchildren.
___bluebull Ferman Weedon, 87, July 13 in Harker Heights. Weedon was a retired pastor who had served churches in Lometa, Devine, Nixon, Uvalde, San Antonio, Denton, Bay City, San Angelo, Houston, Ingram and Kingsland, where he served 19 years. He retired in 1985 after more than 50 years of ministry. He is survived by his wife, Lola Mae; sons, Ernest and Ferman Jr., daughters, Kathryn Flores and LaNora Busenburg; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
___bluebull George Stokes, 83, July 14 in Waco. Stokes, often referred to as the "Voice of Baylor," had announced Bears home football and basketball games for 26 years before retiring in 1987. Stokes also taught at Baylor from 1952 until 1983, in 1977 earning Baylor's Outstanding Professor Award.
