___ SBC corrects misstatement. Officials with the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee and Baptist Press have acknowleged they released a news story about the Baptist General Convention of Texas that contained inaccurate information. The July 3 story stated that "Texas Baptist churches who give money through the Baptist General Convention of Texas' 2001 Adopted Budget will no longer be able to forward money to Southern Baptist seminaries now that a BGCT-initiated funding cap has been imposed." That statement was challenged by BGCT Treasurer Roger Hall, who reminded Texas Baptists that all Texas churches have multiple options for contributing to causes of their choice through the BGCT. According to a July 20 correction by Baptist Press, the error "was unintentional but it clearly was a misstatement of fact."
___ WMU offers how-to help. National Woman's Missionary Union has released a WMU "how to" series for leaders of church WMU organizations. The series includes six books--"WMU in Your Church," "Women on Mission," "Acteens," "Girls in Action," "Children in Action" and "Mission Friends." An additional resource is available for WMU leadership in Hispanic churches. The books may be ordered by calling (800) 968-7301, visiting www.wmustore.com or at LifeWay Christian Stores.
___ Harvest reaped in Benin. More than 250 people of Benin's Weme people group accepted Christ as Savior when Southern Baptist volunteers conducted eye and dental clinics in eight villages. Medical outreach plays a key role in the strategy missionaries Bob and Becky Couts are using to share the gospel with the Weme.
