Offering opens doors for partnership

___GUADALAJARA--In this sprawling metropolis of 7 million people, an estimated 2 percent of the population consider themselves evangelical Christians. In the smaller cities and rural areas around the city, that identity dips below 1 percent.
___To help evangelical Christians bolster their witness, Texas Baptists have formed an "informal partnership" with Baptists in that part of the world, said Don Sewell, director of Texas Partnerships for the Baptist General Convention of Texas. It started two years ago and will continue indefinitely.

Waco teen takes religious liberty lesson to Washington

___WACO--Joseph Cullar, the son of John, a Waco attorney, and Meg Cullar, news editor for the Baylor Line, placed sixth among a field of 81 nationwide competitors in the junior division of individual performance at the National History Day held in Washington, D.C, in June. In Cullar's 10-minute presentation illustrating the event's theme, "Frontiers in History," he portrayed United States Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist, Thomas Jefferson and Roger Williams, delivering their individual thoughts on religious freedom.

Ministry blossoms when florist hands Travis 10,000 bouquets

___FORT WORTH--Members of Travis Avenue Baptist Church arrived at church July 1 to find 10,000 bouquets of flowers awaiting them.
___The flowers had been destined for a local supermarket the Friday before, but the manager determined the temperature in the delivery trailer was inadequate and refused to accept the shipment. Church members used the flowers to spread joy and a good witness all over their city.
