___Retiring
___bluebull Ron Hicks, June 24, as minister of education at Woodlawn Church in Austin. During his 40 years of ministry, he served First Church in San Marcos, Columbus Avenue Church in Waco, Crestview Church in San Antonio and two tenures at Woodlawn. He and his wife, Viki, reside in San Marcos, and he is available for consulting and pulpit supply.

SOUTHWEST CHURCH in DeSoto recently recognized the retirement of B.W. McGlothlin after 56 years of teaching in Sunday School. He was presented a plaque by Pastor Bruce Smilie for his years of service at Ramona Avenue Church in Dallas and at Calvary and Southwest churches in DeSoto.

___bluebull Gardiner Ellis, as pastor of the Birome Baptist/Methodist Church in Birome after 56 years as the church's pastor. Ellis, 92, served both the Birome church and the Leroy Baptist/Methodist Church more than 50 years. He resigned from the Leroy church several years ago. The church will honor Ellis July 15 during the morning worship service and the luncheon that will follow. People who cannot attend are welcome to send a letter to be included in a remembrance book. ___bluebull Larry Putnam, Aug. 5, as minister of music at First Church in Belton. He has served the church more than 30 years and instituted the God and Country Concert, held the Sunday before the 4th of July in the Bell County Expo Center. He and his wife, Velma, will be honored with a reception from 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Aug. 5.

___Deaths
___bluebull Gerald Martin Jr., 79, June 3 in Lindale. Martin was a pastor of churches in Texas, Louisiana, Georgia and Tennessee and was president of the Southern Baptist Pastors' Conference. He also was president and chancellor of Hannibal-La Grange College in Hannibal, Mo. He is survived by his wife, Inez; daughters, Sarah Edlund, Mary Martin, Gerry Lynn Moss and Linda Kalish; sons, Gerald III and John; brothers, Marion, Jim and Herb; sisters, Dorothy Spratlin, Beatrice McDaniel, Barbara Wages and Arlene Topley; and 14 grandchildren.
___bluebull Durward Hazzard, 83, June 3. Hazzard was a pastor and missionary for 37 years. He was pastor of several Texas churches before being appointed as a home missionary to Indiana and later as a chaplain. He retired in 1992 and was a member of First Church in Comanche. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Darlene; daughter Da Sha Beaty; son, Dwayne; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
___bluebull Edgar Hallock, 84, June 8 in Norman, Okla. Hallock and his wife, Zelma, were appointed missionaries to Brazil in 1941 by the Southern Baptist International Mission Board. They spent the next 45 years serving from their base in Rio de Janeiro. He was executive secretary of the Brazilian Sunday School Board for almost 20 years. He also was a seminary professor, directed the Brazilian Bible Press, preached and served as pastor in multiple churches. He also coordinated the 1960 Baptist World Congress in Rio de Janeiro, which saw Billy Graham preach to nearly 200,000 people at the closing service. The Hallocks retired in 1986. Two of the Hallocks' four children followed them as missionaries to Brazil. A grandson is a missionary in the Caribbean. He is survived by his wife; four children; two sisters; one brother; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
___bluebull Ron Dunn, 64, June 29 in Irving. Dunn began preaching revival meetings at age 15 and was pastor of his first church at 17. He was pastor of MacArthur Boulevard Church in Irving for nine years before resigning in 1975 to devote himself to Bible teaching in conferences and churches. He was president of LifeStyle Ministries in Irving. He also was the author of several books including, "Don't Just Stand There, Pray Something." While at MacArthur Boulevard, he began an annual conference for pioneer pastors called "The Encourager Conference." Since that time, more than 250 pastors and their wives have been treated to a week of encouragement. He is survived by his wife, Kaye; son, Stephen; daughter, Kimberly; and brother, Barry. He was preceded in death by his son Ron Jr.
