Around the state
___bluebull Guy Greenfield, director of the Panhandle Pastoral Counseling Ministry in Amarillo and a member of Paramount Church there, is the author of a new book, "The Wounded Minister: Healing from and Preventing Personal Attacks." Greenfield was for many years professor of Christian ethics at Southwestern Seminary.
Swim
FIRST CHURCH OF GEORGETOWN recently engaged in an outreach activity that combined swimming lessons and the gospel. Benita Bonner, a multihousing ministry volunteer, conceived the idea that was aimed at two multihousing communities. Bonner, a certified swim instructor, started each morning with a Bible study that dealt with water and swimming lessons followed. Other volunteers drove the church van and picked up children, prepared snacks and assisted children in the water. An average of 19 children attended each day.
___bluebull Terry Bratton will be an associate professor of computer science for Hardin-Simmons University's School of Business on a full-time basis in the upcoming school year. Bratton, who was associate vice president for information management at HSU since August 1996, has been a part-time member of the faculty and taught non-credit computer classes for the Center for Life- Long Learning since coming from Wayland Baptist University. Before going to Wayland, he served as director of computer services for Southwestern Seminary.

___bluebull Royce Measures, 15th, as pastor of Golden Acres Church in Pasadena. A reception will be held to honor him for his tenure at the church and his 40 years of ministerial service at 2 p.m. Sept. 8.

___Deaths
___bluebull Joe Allen, 85, June 22 in Colorado. Allen died while vacationing. He was a pastor for more than 50 years, serving First churches in Moran, Merkel, Kemah and Childress, where he served 23 years before retirement. He had resided in Granbury 17 years. He is survived by his wife, Lavaughna; daughters, Jo Lynn Madden and Genie Henderson; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
___bluebull Janis Conwell, 53, Aug. 1 in Crosby. Conwell was killed in an automobile accident. She was the wife of Jene Conwell, pastor of Calvary Church North Channel in Houston. She also was an adjunct instructor at San Jacinto College's North Campus. She is survived by her husband; daughters, Jennifer, Christy and Elizabeth Conwell; sons, Joel and Joshua; sisters, Georgia Wilson and Carol Sue Clayton; and two grandchildren.
___bluebull Charles Bush, 66, Aug. 3 in San Antonio. Bush retired as pastor of First Church in Devine last December after serving there 23 years. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Steven Mullens. He is survived by his wife, Patsy; mother, Beatrice Bush; daughters, Debbie Beadle and Sharon Mullens; brother, Ken; sister, Beverly Arrendell; and five grandchildren.

___bluebull First Church in Seabrook will present the Completion in Christ Women's Conference Sept. 8. There is no charge for the conference. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. Small-group conference topics include dealing with anger, assisting aging parents, worshipping alone in marriage and freedom from the past.
