FAMILY MATTERS:
Trust in God for dreams still to come

___This is my senior year, and none of the things I dreamed would happen in high school have happened. I don't have a girlfriend, I didn't make first string and I wasn't elected for any special recognition. I feel like a failure.

___Our lives are filled with dreams and wishes.
___I bet if you tried you could remember what you dreamed for when you were just a kid. Maybe you dreamed of being a racecar driver or climbing a mountain

or having a trophy room filled with trophies. When you entered junior high, your dreams and wishes probably changed to include cars, girls and popularity.
___Our lives are punctuated by stages, just like the stage of life you are about to travel through. During the next 12 months, you will say goodbye to high school and hello to college or a full-time job.
___Life stages usually are bittersweet. It's exciting to think of the new adventures and the new dreams that are waiting to unfold. These are times of letting go of what was and opening yourself in hopes of embracing what is yet to be. Letting go of unfulfilled dreams is something you will have to do with every new stage of life. It's sad, but it's part of maturing and becoming.
___Something else you'll have to do throughout your life is define for yourself what it means to fail and succeed.
___You listed what didn't happen during high school, but you didn't mention what you accomplished. You're graduating this year. What an accomplishment!
___You mentioned that you didn't make first string, so that must mean you made the team. Way to go! If you were hoping to be nominated for a special recognition, I can only assume you have lots of friends.
___When it comes to dreaming, the only way you can be a failure is to not have any dreams at all. Your dreams will change, and some will lead you down paths where blessings you never dreamed of will be discovered.
___Scripture tells us that God blesses us even beyond anything we could dream or imagine (Ephesians 3:20). At every crossroad, and every time you have to lay aside a dream that never came true, may you always hear the Spirit of God whispering, "The best is yet to come!"
