Wayland marks 50 years of integration

___PLAINVIEW--It wasn't a matter of breaking new ground or setting a precedent. And it wasn't about who was right or wrong.
___For Annie Taylor, applying to attend Wayland Baptist University was simply a matter of convenience. But her act, and the college's acceptance, would gain international media exposure for its role as a blow to the nation's practice of segregation.
___This summer marks the 50th anniversary of Taylor's admission to Wayland--and of Wayland's move to voluntarily integrate, becoming the first four-year liberal arts college in the former Confederate South to do so.

14-year-old is go-to girl for missions support

___AZLE--Most Baptist ministries at one time or another undertake a building project. But few of them have a 14-year-old girl in charge of the fund-raising.
___It's appropriate that Melissa Petry lead the charge to enlarge the Mission House of First Baptist Church of Castle Hills in Azle, however, since she is largely responsible for the need for additional space.

Three NAMB administrators leave due to Baptist Faith & Message

___ATLANTA--Three North American Mission Board administrators have left the agency over disagreements with the 2000 Baptist Faith & Message.
___Gerry Hutchinson, Denoso Escobar and George Pickle have left the board "because they said they could not do their ministries in accordance with the Baptist Faith & Message," according to NAMB spokesman Martin King.
